I started work in the mill straight from school when I was fifteen.
I was put in a job called the ticketing. this job was done by
hand, You had to lick each label and stick one on each bobbin.
I did not like this job at all so I left the mill after a year.
Much later when I was in my forties I returned to the mill. My
sister spoke to Joe Barr, at that time they liked to employ people
from the same family. I worked in the Bulking department for a
few years then I went to the Newton Mearns Mill.
I really enjoyed the mill second time around and made a lot of
good friends. I took early retirement after I had been in the
mill for sixteen years,
